Tarraleah Scholars House Facilities
Your comfort during your stay at Tarraleah is our number one priority. These are just a few important things we think you would like to know when you book your accommodation at Scholars House. The Tasmanian Highlands can get cold so please make sure you pack warm comfortable clothing and don't forget the sunscreen!
Barbeque
You are welcome to barbeque in the garden. We have barbeques available for you to use. Please ask reception and we can have one delivered. Alternatively, there is a BBQ area behind the Great Hall. A great spot for a party.
Electric Blankets
Evenings can be cool and all the beds have electric blankets. If you are from a warmer climate and not used to them, we advise you turn them on a couple of hours before going to bed. Guests are better alive, not fried, so we also advise you turn them off before you go to sleep.
Need more blankets?
There are extra blankets stored in the blanket chest.
TV and DVD Player
A DVD player is supplied with your TV. There is a comprehensive selection of DVDs for rent from the Highland Store. Televisions are provided in each room. You can receive four stations; ABC, SBS, WIN, and Southern Cross.
Heating (wood fires)
There is a red wood heater in the snug next to the kitchen. A great place to sip your wine or beer. If the fire is not alight you a welcome to light it. Kindling and wood is in the wood box just inside the front door.
Laundry/Iron
There is a separate laundry with coin-operated machines opposite room 6. An ironing board and iron is supplied in your room.
Kitchen
Scholars House has a fully equipped kitchen centrally located in the building that you are welcome to use to cook yourself meals at any time of the day. All cutlery and crockery is supplied and we only ask that you wash up after your meal.
Internet
We are upgrading our internet service and will be offering wireless internet throughout the village from Sept 2010. There is a separate computer room next to the laundry. You are welcome to use this at any time. There is a small charge for internet use. Please contact reception to purchase internet time.Maintenance
Things sometimes go wrong. If something is not working, (ie the roof leaking, the DVD player is on the blink, the oven won't work, etc. ) please call reception and we will do our best to resolve the problem.
Newspaper
The Mercury is available daily from the Highland Store. If you would like a different paper please let reception know.
Telephone
Mobiles won't work! Sadly they don't work here in Tarraleah or indeed much of the central highlands. There is a landline in your room. All outside calls are charged and you will be invoiced on departure.
Smoking
All the rooms are non-smoking. We apologise for any inconvenience but we need to adhere strictly to this. Smoking anywhere in the room will incur an additional cleaning charge of the daily rate (we have to take the room out of service for the day). Please feel free to smoke in the garden.
Smoke Alarms
Your room is fitted with a hard wired smoke alarm.
Check In/Check Out
Check in is 2:00pm. Check out is 10:00am. Subject to arriving guests we are sometimes able to arrange a late check out time. Please ask reception when you book – late check outs need to be arranged the evening before your departure.
